}} Doris Brown was born on September 17, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington. Brown went to Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Washington, graduating in 1960. She then attended Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington where she earned a B.A. in 1964 and a M.S. in 1971. She won the first three official women's races at the International Cross Country Championships from 1967 to 1969.
